Privacy Policy — PocketMIDI
Last updated: June 2026
PocketMIDI is a free MIDI synthesizer for Android developed by JDevStudio. This privacy policy explains what information the app does and does not collect.
Data Collection
PocketMIDI does not collect any personal data, and there is no usage or behavioural analytics in the app. Music-making works entirely on-device. The only data that ever leaves your device is an optional, anonymous crash report sent through Firebase Crashlytics (Google) when the app crashes — and only if you have opted in.
Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)
To help us find and fix bugs, PocketMIDI can send anonymous crash diagnostics using Firebase Crashlytics, a service provided by Google. This is off by default. On first launch the app asks whether you want to enable it, and you can turn it on or off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Send crash reports.
When enabled, a crash report may include:
- Crash and ANR stack traces (including symbolicated native/C++ frames)
- Breadcrumbs and custom keys we set for diagnostics (e.g. the active instrument id, audio buffer size, and audio underrun counts — never personal data)
- Device model and brand, operating-system version, and app version
- Device state at the time of the crash (available memory/disk, orientation)
- A Crashlytics installation identifier (a per-install, resettable UUID — this is not the advertising ID; PocketMIDI never requests the advertising ID)
Crash data is processed by Google on our behalf under the Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms and is not shared with any other third party or used for advertising. Reports are retained for up to 90 days. Your IP address may be used transiently to deliver the report and is then discarded. See Firebase's privacy information for details.
Permissions Used
USB Host
Used to communicate with USB MIDI keyboards connected via OTG adapter. No data from the MIDI device is stored or transmitted.
Audio
The audio permission is declared in the manifest because the Oboe audio library requires it to access low-latency audio output on some devices. PocketMIDI does not record, process, or store any audio from the microphone.
Local Storage
PocketMIDI stores the following data locally on your device only:
- App settings (selected instrument, master volume, BPM, time signature)
- Named presets you choose to save
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the preset export feature to share a file via another app you choose.
Third-Party Services
PocketMIDI uses Firebase Crashlytics (Google) for optional, opt-in crash reporting only, as described above. It does not use any advertising SDKs or behavioural/usage analytics, and there are no advertising trackers of any kind in the app.
Children
PocketMIDI does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
